HOW DO I GET THERE?
You’ll find many flights to Tallinn whether you’re traveling straight there or having adventures beforehand. It’s worth noting that Helsinki, Finland is a ferry ride away if that gives you more flexibility or if you’d like to make an easy pitstop before/after our events. The ferry terminal is close to downtown.
HOW DO I GET AROUND?
You can use Uber or local taxis. There will be taxis at the airport, ferry terminal, and on the edges of Old Town. Old Town itself is mostly pedestrian.
WHERE DO I STAY?
We strongly recommend staying in Old Town, which puts you at the cultural center of the city (and country!). There are plenty of hotels and AirBnBs to choose from.
WHAT DO I DO?
Just walking around Old Town will give you a dose of history and culture. Tallinn is about the size of New Orleans and Old Town can be compared to the French Quarter — although older, dating back to 1245 with major medieval vibes. Within Old Town is Toompea hill, which has a number of landmarks and nice views. Visit Church of the Holy Spirit to see where we got married in 2013. Some walking distance or a short drive from Old Town are Kadriorg Park (which contains a museum and the President’s house) and nearby KUMU art museum. You can also find tours that take you around Old Town and around the medieval fortress walls that surround it.
WHERE DO I EAT?
Some of our (and our guests’ 10 years ago) favorites include Olde Hansa for medieval fare, Troika for Russian classics, and Must Puudel for something more casual and hip. Cafe Maiasmokk is super cute and has Mirell’s favorite hand-painted marzipan figurines.
DO I BRING MY KIDS?
The welcome party on Friday evening is for the whole family. The anniversary party on Saturday will be adults only. Please contact us if you need a babysitter for Saturday night — we have some leads. All that being said, the kids will love Tallinn!
WHAT’S THE WEATHER?
Be prepared for anything! If we’re lucky, it’ll be 70 and sunny, but it can also be quite cold any rainy this time of year.
